2002 Echo Park Soap Box Derby

The rigorous preparations included trying to dry the paint on a giant clown head with a heat gun, on a dark and stormy night.
The car was ready by 8:30 a.m., except for a few details like wheels and how the hell to get it down some stairs.
We are about to win against the wagon!! The smoke pours from the exhaust pipes! Onlookers cheer!
The official Los Angeles Cacophony pit crew assembles the car and poses for a photograph. The designer, Walt, gets his leg fondled by a woman who was drawn as if by a magnet toward the car with the giant clown head.

We built, we ran, we um, got eliminated.

Thanks to Walt for inspiring leadership in the face of enormous odds. Without him, we would not have ventured boldly (well, pretty boldly, considering it was early in the morning on a Saturday) into the uncharted realm of fun without hurtful mockery. Next year's plans are already fermenting.
